TYLER, Texas – Harding sophomore midfielder Conner Galloway notched his first career two-goal game, and the Bison defense held Texas-Tyler (1-2) scoreless for more than 80 minutes to earn its first win of the season 4-1 on Thursday.
Harding (1-4) took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute as senior Colby Wilson scored his second goal of the season on an assist from Odie Guzman. It was the only goal of the first half.
The Bisons put the game away early in the second with goals less than two minutes apart. Senior Carter Truax scored his first of the season on an assist from freshman Phillip McCormick at 57:16. It was Truax's second career game-winning goal. One minute and 40 seconds later, Galloway scored his first, assisted by Truax.
Galloway's second goal came in the 65th minute and was unassisted. Galloway joined McCormick as the only Bisons with multi-goal games this season. McCormick scored three in Harding's season opener against Lambuth.
The Harding defense, which allowed 22 goals in the team's first four games, gave up only one Thursday, an 81st minute goal by Kevin Gansert. The Bisons also allowed only three shots on goal.
Harding will be back in action Saturday at First Security Stadium. The Bisons meet Ozarks (Ark.) at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on tape delay at HardingSports.com.
